What is avatar? Avatar is your personality in the internet. Today, avatar refers to your profile picture (icon) that appears beside your name when you participate a discussion in an avatar enabled website. I am not sure who started the concept of avatar but big names in computing like Google, Yahoo!, and Microsoft are using it across their network. As far as I can recall, it was and is being used in games. Social networks like FaceBook and Twitter use it as profile picture.

There are several reasons why one should start their own website. Typically, website is created for brand promotion and public awareness. In tough business competition, it is important to deliver the message to the targeted audience in the fastest and most efficient way. Website can do that. Big names in business without a website is awkward. I cannot imagine Coca Cola and Nescafe without a web page. Even the sticky Juicy fruit has its own web presence.

Do not overdo yourself. Our brain needs some time to process new information in our head. Learning HTML and/or PHP cannot be done overnight or in one day. So take some break and let the information settle in your brain. Fifteen minutes to one hour a day is enough for us to go forward. Like any other leaning endeavor, overdoing will do no good to us. Learning is not effective in a short span of time. If we push ourselves very hard, we might end up losing our health, so what's the point. Health is our most precious wealth. So take it easy buddy.

For personal or business use, domain is now a must for you to have. More and more people are using the internet everyday. Younger generations are geared towards the use of internet. People are doing small and big businesses over the internet. You may ask, why should I need to register a domain for myself and for my business. Before we see things in perspective let us first explain what is a domain.

In most web hosting companies, you can host unlimited website in single account. This is true with my own host, the HostGator.com. I can actually create as many website as I can with no limit. Addon domain will accomplish the task of adding new website to your existing account.

As our site grows, we really feel the need to expand. You have a new whole fresh idea appropriate for your successful site and to its audience. To add new feature to a very active site may lead to disaster, specially if the feature you wanted is really huge. This is where the need of a subdomain arise. With the subdomain, you will not mess up your stable database structure, and you don't need to go offline while in development.

To avoid very lengthy posts, I make a separate post for uploading your web files. The last part and the most vital step is to upload your files to the web server. Even if you complete the steps outlined above, your server is still empty. I will discuss here two ways to upload your files. Upload files using cPanel and using FileZilla.

In one of my previous posts, I discuss the theories and concepts on how to start your own website. In this post, you will be guided with specific actions. What to do first and what to do next in building your own website. There are four things we need to accomplish for us to run our very first web page.

1. Register a domain name for your website.
2. Get a web server to host your files.
3. Point your domain name to your server.
4. Upload your web pages.

The four steps above must be accomplished to successfully run your first website.

In this post, I will assume that you already have your domain name and webhosting account.

In my previous post, I discuss on how to register a domain name at GoDaddy. The next thing to do is to buy a web hosting so that we can make our web files available over the internet.
