Testing Drupal 7 in Local Machine
A D V E R T I S E M E N T
I think it's already months since Drupal released the alpha version of Drupal 7. Of course, it is not intended for production site, the purpose of the release is for the community to test and to find more bugs. As a Drupal enthusiast, I installed Drupal 7.0 into my local machine to see whats new.
During installation, there is a prompt to select between Standard and Minimal install. Standard install with commonly used features pre-configured and Minimal start with only a few modules enabled. I choose Standard in my local installation. In the Standard installation, Image module is pre-installed. This is good news to all Drupalers, Image module is now part of the Drupal core. Below is the screen shot of the fresh installed Drupal 7.
At the surface of the freshly installed Drupal 7, you can see the administrative links at the topmost row. All are well placed for easy navigation to administrative tasks. A block contains direct link for easy administration. I purposely open it in the screen shot above.
One excellent improvement of Drupal 7 is the obvious separation between administrative pages and the site. Most admin pages floats in a window. It looks like a frame but it is not exactly a frame. It somewhat overlay the page where you are currently at with the administration page. The screen shot of Drupal 7 Dashboard is shown below.
There are lots of things to tell, I cannot narrate everything here. I suggest you try it too. Here is the link to Drupal 7 alpha release: http://drupal.org/project/drupal. I am now excited for the official release of Drupal 7. I will use it to my domain that is idling in the corner.
